"As a graphic designer, I can look into a graphic problem and make it understandable and interesting to the viewer. The cover of the Next Whole Earth Catalog was destined to look like its many predecessors, until I zoomed in, cropped the globe and made the four corners of the book, the four corners of the world.
As an artist with a digital or bristle brush in hand, I can whip up a storm, or stroke the gentlest breast. With pencil and paint to guide me, I fear no subject, from the red rock of Arizona to the jungles of Peru.
In my garden a walker can see the results of an artist armed with spade and vision: towering passion vines dangle over a grand, but camouflaged, children's castle, built using a new use for old milk crates, and filled with compost, growing a vertical lawn on its sides.
With the many skills at my command all jobs can be done. A background in heavy architectural iron work (I worked as a blacksmith on Admiralty Arch gates in London) came in useful when designing a hotel gate like a plate, with knife and fork as the support.
So, if you want it pretty, and quick, I'm the fastest draw in the world."
